| Description | MISSION STATEMENT Our mission is to provide deserving young men with scholarships to complete their education at Salesian High School whereby they will benefit from a solid Christian education which is based on Morals, Values, and Ethics. We are a non-profit organization founded in 2011 by a group of graduates from Salesian High School located in the heart of East Los Angeles. As a group, we decided that it is important to keep the memory of Father Murphy alive by promoting the character building and Christian Salesian values that he instilled in us. He was a loving and caring priest always available during our times of trial and need. He helped us cope with the challenges of being teenagers and guided us through our adult situations. Aside from stressing the need for higher education, he made the point that it is always important to be responsible citizens and "Give Back to the Community". The Class of 1967 getting together at Tepeyac in the City of Industry for some good food, reminiscing and fellowship. THANK YOU so much, for your support. The name of the students are as follows: Joe Camacho, Michael Coto, Ralph Franco, Jonathan Sanchez, and Aldan Cuellar each received $1,000.00. Aldan Cuellar was the recipient of the Frank Morales Memorial Scholarship with an additional $1,000.00 for the next 3yrs while attending Salesian High School. We the Men and Women of the Friends of Fr. Murphy would like to thank each and everyone for your continuous contributions and support throughout the year, without you this could not be possible. Father Murphy the Man Salesian Father Ralph Murphy, who served various Salesian assignments in the Bay Area, died July 14 at age 87. He was born in Waukesha, Wisconsin, and moved with his family to California in 1935. He made his religious profession with the Salesians in 1946. After graduating with a bachelor's degree at Don Bosco College in Newton, N.J., he was ordained a priest in 1956. He later graduated with a master's degree in English at Dominican University in San Rafael. His first assignment after ordination was as dean of students of Salesian Junior Seminary, now Salesian High School. During the 1960s and 1970s, Father Murphy served at Salesian High School, and as director of the Salesian Boys Club, both in Los Angeles. From 1984 through 1989, he worked as the treasurer in Richmond, and through 1998 he was the treasurer at Don Bosco Hall in Berkeley. Afterward he held different assignments at the provincial house in San Francisco. A year ago, he returned to Los Angeles, and for the last six months was cared for at Nazareth House in Los Angeles.
